Google and Facebook will both be front and centre in 'social search'

Findings from a Greenlight survey indicate Google+ might be more successful than most have initially speculated and that Facebook could potentially capture close to a quarter of the search market globally were it to launch a search engine of its own tomorrow. This market share would make Facebook the second most utilised search engine in every major market except for China, Japan, and Russia, where it would occupy an uncontested third place.

Should we bother with Facebook Advertising if 44% of us would never click on a sponsored ad?

Following on from Andreas Pouros’ blog, I take one of his closing points: “The good news for Facebook is that it could capture around 22% of that search market by barely breaking a sweat”. Although tiny when compared to Google’s 87% share [Source: Greenlight - Search and Social Survey 2011/2012], the opportunity still presents a greater share when compared to the other big players in the market (Yahoo, Bing etc).

Google and Facebook will both be front and centre in ‘social search’. So it won’t be enough for sites to simply be relevant. They will also need to demonstrate qualities that attract social validation and promotion.

Almost 2 million searches for insurance products online, 62% for car insurance

UK consumers conducted over 1.9 million searches for insurance products online in January, 1.2 million (62 %) of which pertained to car insurance. By comparison, travel insurance and home insurance attracted a mere 25 % and 13% share, respectively.

Car insurance searches soar at the expense of home and travel

UK consumers made close to 2 million searches for insurance products online and queries for car insurance were the most popular. This is according to Greenlight's latest report, 'Insurance Sector Report - Issue 11', which profiled consumer search behaviour on Google UK for home, travel and car insurance products in January.
